The
Department of Mental Health Law & Policy at
the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute offers a variety
of educational and training opportunities to help meet the challenges
of practice in today's changing field. Undergraduate and graduate
level academic courses are taught through several USF departments
and at the Stetson University College of Law. A series of community
based training and workshops are also offered addressing skills
and best practices for mental health and substance abuse service
providers in a variety of venues. You may register for the scheduled
workshops or arrange for a particular training to come to your organization/agency.
In addition, we offer a series of low-cost and free on-line training
which offers continuing education credits for professionals via
the Internet. MHLP is also host to the Professional Development
Center which under contract to the Florida Department of Children
& Families, provides training to child welfare workers throughout
central Florida.

Co-Occurring
Disorders (COD) Training:
This
No Fee Training Series offers a comprehensive
overview for counselors on topics related to assessing and treating
persons with co-occurring disorders. A
certificate of completion is available at no cost. Continuing
Education Credits are available for a fee for some categories
of licensed professionals in Florida including Psychologists,
Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Marriage and Family
Therapists, and Addiction Professionals.

Functional Assessment Rating Scale (CFARS) Training and Certification
System
The
No Fee Training and Certification System teaches
you to use the CFARS to document and standardize information from
clinical evaluations or mental status exams to describe cognitive,
social and role functioning of children and adolescents. The site
includes contact information, user manuals, SSL security for registration,
and training and certification in use of the scales. Continuing
Education Credits are available for a fee for some categories
of licensed professionals in Florida including Psychologists,
Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Marriage and Family
Therapists, and Addiction Professionals.
