Library Projects: 1998: Dealing With Frequently Asked Questions with a Self Indexing E-Mail System Available Via the World Wide Web
Often faculty are inundated with the same types of questions each semester and, in fact, may receive the same question multiple times in a week. The project involves the use of three shareware programs linked together for efficiency. An electronic mail program (Pine 3.90 from the University of Washington) is linked to the Lycos fuzzy logic program to automatically archive selected outgoing e-mail messages and place them in a location that can be searched via the World Wide Web. Students may then consult this dynamic archive for answers to their questions prior to writing to their professor, thus saving wear and tear on the faculty member. This methodology may be used with any course material, including those which are graphically oriented.
