The Journal of Behavioral Health Services & Research (JBHS&R) invites manuscripts for publication consideration in all areas of alcohol, drug abuse, and mental health as well as the following areas:


  • Implementation Science: Translation issues in prevention, treatment, & behavioral health services research
  • Co-Occurring Disorders
  • Health Disparities in Behavioral Health Services
  • Consumer-Focused Services
  • Community-Based Participatory Research
  • Evidence-Based Practice in Behavioral Health Services
  • Mental Health Services Delivery in Non-Traditional Settings
  • Informatics in Behavioral Health Services
  • Integrating Mental Health Services With Primary Care
  • Quality Improvement Initiatives within State, Community, and/or Institutional Settings (i.e., evaluation of projects that attempt to improve care)


Journal Information
Now in its fourth decade, the JBHS&R is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes articles on the organization, financing, delivery, and outcomes of behavioral health services. It is an essential resource for researchers, administrators, policymakers, and other behavioral health professionals. Articles published in JBHS&R are cited in major abstract and indexing services, including (but not limited to) Current Contents/Social & Behavioral Sciences, EMBASE/Excerpta Medica, HealthSTAR, Hospital and Health Administration Index, Index Medicus, Medline, Mental Health Abstracts, PsycINFO, PsycLIT, Psychological Abstracts, and the Web of Science.
