Social Marketing Media Producer Bill Lichtenstein to Visit FMHI

FMHI is hosting Bill Lichtenstein, a former investigative producer for ABC News, 20/20, World News Tonight and Nightline. After being diagnosed with manic depression, and struggling to recover and find new employment, Lichtenstein formed an independent production company, Lichtenstein Creative Media (LCM), to produce high-quality film, television and radio productions dealing with mental health, human rights and social justice issues. LCM's The Infinite Mind, is public radio's most honored and listened to health and science program (aired on WUSF Public Broadcasting). On March 29 & 30, three special events are being held. See below for more information on each of the events.

The Dr. Blaise F. Alfano Conference and Banquet Center
(across from USF at Fowler Avenue and McKinley Dr.)
11606 N. McKinley Dr, Tampa, 33612

This Community Awareness Event will feature a viewing of Lichtenstein's documentary, “West 47th Street” an award-winning film which follows four people with serious mental illness as their lives naturally unfold over three years. The featured individuals are all members of Fountain House, an internationally renowned psychiatric rehabilitation program located in a part of New York City once known as Hell’s Kitchen. The screening will provide an excellent springboard for discussions about accommodation, acceptance, allocation of resources, and ultimately, about how our view of people with mental illness shapes their quality of life. Community organizations and the USF Counseling Center will be on hand to share information on their services. Special art will be on display and available for sale by Tampa Bay area artists with mental and physical disabilities. (Download flyer)
