November, 2006 Congratulations to FMHI Million Dollar ResearchersOn November 2, President Judy Genshaft and Vice President for Research Robert Chang recognized USF Million Dollar Researchers with a dinner in the Galleria at USF’s Research Park. USF sponsored research exceeded $300 million in grant funding this past fiscal year, surpassing all previous records. Of the 69 university researchers honored for bringing in a million dollars or more in external funding, 7 were from FMHI, the second-highest funding recipient, with $30.4 million (Aug. 18, 2006). Donald Kincaid, Robert Constantine and Michael Knox were Gold awardees, having brought in $3 million or more to the university. The Silver awardees, those who brought in $1 million or more to USF, were Glen Dunlap, Lise Fox, Robert Friedman and Diane Powell. (David Shern and John Mullins were also million dollar researchers.) Each recipient received a framed certificate from President Genshaft and Vice President Chang bearing the University’s seal, category, and name. “It is a challenge to maintain a consistently high level of funding when research dollars are becoming more and more competitive,” said Robert Chang. “To break the $300 million mark is truly a tremendous achievement and we applaud the hard work of our research faculty.” President Genshaft announced that this will be an annual event. |
