The Violence and Injury Prevention Program has several goals.

  • To conduct research to improve our ability to detect, intervene, and prevent suicide, homicide-suicide, and homicide in older and younger persons.

  • To train professionals in the aging, mental health, public health, forensic, and community networks to detect, intervene, and prevent these situations.

  • To provide traumatic grief resources for family survivors.

  • To maintain a high media profile to educate the public about depression, suicide, and homicide-suicide.

  • To participate in continuing medical education programs to educate the primary care community about depression, suicide, and homicide-suicide.
